Designer Fashion – Back to the Future
Designer Fashion Back to the Future
Everybody who’s anybody in the fashion industry has been talking about the overwhelming interest in retro styles this year. This fall, we can expect to see many trends from previous decades come back into style, with a vengeance. For some reason, (this year especially) consumers have shown more interest in past styles than they do for new, innovative styles created by the designers themselves.
For the most part, the popular styles expected for fall are synonymous with those of the 1970′s and 1980′s. There are mixed opinions regarding the recent interest in these styles; some people love the retro look and others detest it. For those of you who are unaware of the styles I’m referring to, take a look below:
Skinny Jeans Skinny jeans, you know the ones your mom still loves to wear the ones you’ve been begging her for the past 10 years to get rid of? Well, they’re officially back in style. The tighter the bottom, the better the look and they can be paired with just about anything. Long shirts that fall just below the bottom of your behind seem to be the ideal match to skinny jeans. Likewise, celebrities like Sienna Miller and Jessica Alba have shown significant interest in the skinny jeans with knee-high boots overtop look, which consumers have grown to love as well.
Headbands, Bandanas and Other Retro Accessories Thick headbands, patterned bandanas and knee-high socks are the accessories of the fall. Think Jackie O and Audrey Hepburn if you’re having a hard time envisioning the trend. Or, for those of you who can better relate to today’s celebrities, think Nicole Richie and Jessica Simpson. Headbands are far more popular than most of the other accessories and could become the single biggest trend of the year.
Leggings One trend I never thought would come back into style is leggings, but clearly I was wrong. Legging, also known as tights or spandex, have re-appeared on the fashion scene and have become focal points in many of the designer collections this year. Originally, leggings were worn under skirts, capris and even shorts but Hollywood has made of trend of wearing leggings on their own. Lindsay Lohan and Mary-Kate Olsen are prime examples of celebrities who have participated in this trend.
I think it’s safe to say that some trends will never go out of style. They may disappear for a short period of time, but they’ll be back eventually. So don’t throw away your tasseled t-shirt and bell-bottom pants by 2015, you’ll be wishing you kept them.
Alexander Mcqueen, Fashion Designer, 1969 To 2010
The fashion world lost one of its treasures when Alexander McQueen, four-time British Fashion Designer of the Year awardee, passed away last February 11 at the age of 40. His artistry had drawn much attention because of its boldness and attitude that defied what is commonly acceptable in fashion circles.
The youngest of six broods, Alexander McQueen was born on March 16, 1969 in London East End. The son of a taxi driver, McQueen stopped going to school at an early age of 16 and decided to work at Savile Row when he found out that there were only a few apprentices in traditional tailoring. He first trained at Anderson and Sheppard and later moved to Gieves and Hawkes before working with theater costumiers Berman and Nathan. McQueen got to hone his skill at Savile Row which he credited for his precision in creating form fitting clothes.
When McQueen was twenty, he applied and worked with Japanese designer Koji Tatsuno who made clothes from antique materials. Afterwards, he was taken in by Italian designer Romeo Gigli who was quick to notice his inclination towards designs that are too far-out and unconventional. He then went back to London to take his MA at Central St. Martin
Real Fashion in Designer Wears
Fashion Design in itself has to be good because it inspires a clean look and makes people more conscious of cleanliness and ordered life. The fashion design creates great beauty out of even the ugliest by proper designing of dress and other lifestyle increasing components. The creation of fashion is also an effort to create beauty on all human beings. The modern dresses are all designed to give all people their perfect look. In short, the fashion designers expect all people to be good in their look. It is nice for creating a beautiful world for all the people. Therefore, we can say that fashion designing is simply a necessity for this world i.e. for the betterment of the beauty consciousness of this world. We have spoken about the pros of the fashion designing. Associating to that is a deliberate obsolescence; and it is a trend that is seen in the fashion designing world. Accordingly, one fashion design used in this season is not used for the next season. This trend is good in one way since it provides profit for the clothing industry. Many people who are dependent on this clothing industry are benefited through it and it encourages people to spend money in the economy, which benefits the growth in the GDP of a particular nation country. It is a great help for many poor people in the market.
The fashion design is usually said to possess a deliberate obsolescence after each season and this is mainly because of the change in the seasons namely summer, winter, autumn and spring. The trend of the deliberate obsolescence of fashion is evoked by the influence of media, which generally promotes the concept of an ostentatious world. In one way it is useful for the merchants, cloth makers and other designers. However, it causes a bit of wastage of money, cloth materials and natural resources. We shall have a small discussion about the pros and cons of fashion design and its obsolescence.
Fashion design and the resulting obsolescence needs to be balanced to reduce the impact on the sustenance of the future generation. We should care for our fashion trends as well as encourage the re-use of fashioning materials; so let us together make this world beautiful for ourselves and for our future generation. As we consider the pros of fashion designing and deliberate obsolescence, we also need to look into the cons of it. The main disadvantages of the fashion design and its obsolescence consists of wastage of a lot of resources. The natural resources are depleted to a higher degree when people try to adapt to the frequent changes in the fashion. If this continues, there will not be any resources left for the future generation and if the generation do not cater to the needs of future to create a clean environment, it is a downsizing trend to the whole mankind. In other words, all that we do for us will make us selfish and at the same time will decrease the chances for the future generation to live happily.
